The Chiefs Esports Club are on the hunt for the best and brightest of the next generation of League of Legends stars, and will be giving those who prove themselves worthy a chance via the L’Oreal Men Expert LoL Scouting Grounds.
Kicking off next weekend — November 26 & 27 — The Chiefs’ LoL Scouting Grounds will feature eight teams of four amateur prodigies, each captained and/or coached by a OCE League of Legends veteran.
The eight teams will be split into two groups, with Saturday’s round robin best-of-one format whittling each group down from four teams to two.
The best on Saturday will proceed to Sunday’s playoffs — a double-elimination bracket with a best-of-three grand finals. Both days will be streamed live and are set to feature an “all-star cast that [fans] might be familiar with”.
The Chiefs aren’t limiting the scouting to players, with event signups open to aspiring casters or coaches itching for a crack at Oceanic League of Legends top flight.
“The OCE region has always punched above its weight,” said The Chiefs Operations Manager Mike Stewart. “Time and time again it’s proven that our superstars are contenders on the international stage and worthy of being recruited by some of the biggest teams in the world.
“Now it’s time to identify the next generation of players, coaches and talent that will lead the region for years to come.”
It’s the first initiative of its kind for the Oceanic region, with the event making it easier for the next generation of Oceanic League stars to make their first step into competitive esports.
The Chiefs’ Scouting Grounds event echoes that of similar events held by Riot Games in North America, with 2021’s version of the LCS Scouting Grounds drawing thousands of viewers as prospecting prodigies battled the Rift for a shot at a franchised team.
“An appropriate scouting event is way overdue and we’re pleased to finally put together this event”, said Stewart.
“We’re excited to partner with L’Oreal Men Expert to find the next Swip3rR, the next Raes, the next Chief. Through our new Academy system we will foster upcoming talent to one day join the LCO squad and one day be leading our team at Worlds.”
Sign ups are open now and close Sunday, November 20. Those applying for talent or coaching positions can also apply via the sign up page.
More news regarding The Chiefs Scouting Grounds, including details around the broadcast and the team captains, will be revealed in the coming days ahead of next week’s event.
