Ground Zero secure super team for Contenders Australia 2020

Oceanic Overwatch’s new super team has found a home at Perth-based organization Ground Zero Gaming for the Contenders Australia 2020 season.

The roster, which was previously reported by Snowball, contains a solid mix of the region’s best veterans alongside some rising stars.

Order’s former core of Adam ‘Adam’ Soong, Dale ‘Signed’ Tang, and Max ‘Unter’ Unterwurzacher provide a solid basis of synergy for the team.

The trio placed first in both seasons of Contenders Australia in 2019, and were Australia’s representatives at the Pacific Showdown. Unter and Signed also were a part of Australia’s and New Zealand’s Overwatch World Cup campaigns in November 2019.

Unter’s World Cup teammate Giorgio ‘Tongue’ Lahdo will join him on Ground Zero as flex support. The veteran failed to find success with Blank Esports and Warriors Esports in the last couple of seasons, and will be looking to get a taste of Contenders glory in 2020.

Former Sydney Drop Bears members Park ‘Nyang’ Su-young and Felix ‘ckm’ Murray will fill out the DPS slots next to Signed. Nyang will be on the starting roster, while ckm will be around as a substitute.

Ckm, a two-time Australian World Cup representative and one-time Contenders champion, has come out of retirement to join the super squad.

Rookie main tank Riley ‘cuFFa’ Brown rounds out the super star lineup. cuFFa does have amateur and Open Division experience behind him, but 2020 marks his first year in Australia’s top Overwatch league.

Lachlan ‘Bertlog’ Main and Sam ‘Quatz’ Dennis are notable absences from the Ground Zero’s roster. Snowball understands that both were dropped from the team, with Quatz going on to join New Zealand organization Warriors Esports as a stand-in for the seeding tournament.

Ground Zero will be looking to cement their place at the top of Oceanic Overwatch after promising performances in 2019. They fell short of both LAN finals at IEM Sydney and Melbourne Esports Open, coming 5-6th in season one and 3-4th in season two.

Ground Zero’s new roster will be in action against Athletico in the Contenders Australia 2020 Seeding Tournament for season one today.
