Sliding Doors: OPL 2020 Split 1, Week 8

Welcome back to Sliding Doors, where each week we run through the OPL teams with sometimes spicy, sometimes nice if/then takes, and every now and then an additional bonus one around a special topic.

You might be familiar with this concept if you’re an AFL fan, which is where we got the idea. So without further ado, here are your sliding doors for OPL Split 1, Week 8

You’re an Avant fan planning to tune into the OPL this week,

you better be prepared for some rough times. Chiefs and Legacy on the card doesn’t bode well.

You compare the Chiefs’ last two weeks to the start of their season,

you just hope, as an OPL fan generally, that they don’t blow up in playoffs like they seemingly have for the last three years.

You had doubts on the Dire Wolves before,

you’re foolish if you think they’re nothing more than a puncher’s chance now.

Gravitas want to steer clear of the wooden spoon,

beating Mammoth will be just like lifting the title for winning the split.

You’re looking for consistency from Legacy after a pretty major roster change,

Avant into Order is a good week to string a 2-0 and build some momentum.

Mammoth have no chance of making playoffs,

the next few weeks are your best opportunity to prove that you have what it takes to contest for fifth in Split 2.

You’re wondering which team might benefit the most from the move to online play,

Order not having to travel to Sydney every week is number one. We will definitely miss Jake “Spawn” Tiberi on the OPL broadcast though.

Pentanet can start breathing easy, with playoffs almost a certainty,

they really need to show they can cut it with the best over the next three weeks. Their win over Legacy does help their title chances immensely.

That’s all we have for this week! We’ll be back every Friday with a new Sliding Doors for the OPL.

The Oceanic Pro League returns today.
